Dear Troy and Genevieve,
I know that you will probably never remember Wednesday February 6th 2013 but I will never forget this day. We joined your daddy on a work trip to Huntsville, Alabama for a couple days and had a fantastic time enjoying what this city had to offer. We went to EarlyWorks Children's Museum and a park that had a HUGE pond with fountains and ducks and fish and geese. We ate at a few yummy restaurants with daddy and had plain old hotel fun. All went great, almost better than great. The people here were all so nice to us. There was a lady who let us use the rest of her parking meter (2 hours were left on it!), a woman who worked at the museum who gave us some extra change to refill said meter (mama needs to keep more cash/coins on her), a man who stopped at the park to let you play with his 2 chihuahuas, a woman who gave us half a loaf of bread to feed the ducks and fish.
But all this great fun ended in a crash. Literally,...a car crash. Mama stopped paying attention for a second and found her front bumper hitting the back end of a car sending it rolling. Scariest millisecond of my life. There could have been numerous outcomes. Mostly not good. We were okay. You both were okay. When I got out of the car to look at you both, you acted as if nothing had happened. I will thank God everyday that you were both okay. Not a scratch, not a bump, not a bruise, not a tear (until the ambulance ride later). The car that mama hit laid on its side across the intersection with a swarm of people around helping the passengers out. I could hardly look in that direction. After knowing that you guys were fine, I was paralyzed with horror and panic not knowing if the people in that car were okay. Luckily, they were wearing their seat belts and the cops told daddy that they were going to be fine. Everyone was going to be okay.
The reason I want to tell you this is that you never know what will happen in life. Be thankful for every day that you have, every kiss and hug you receive, every triumph and failure. Be grateful for people who show kindness, for sunny and rainy days, for love that makes your soul feel whole. This day was not one I would ever want to relive but I know that there has to be something taken away from it. The obvious lesson for mama is to always pay extra attention while driving in areas you are not familiar with. But the main lesson is to cherish all the ones that you love. I love you both more than you will ever know.
Love,
Mama
