Eastern Shore, Virginia

This past weekend, we took an impromptu trip up to the Eastern Shore of Virginia.  The boat was towed along so that we could have our first overnight stay on the water.  We took our time and stopped at Oyster, VA on the way (look at what we are walking on and you will see why this town has that name).  We made our way further north to Onancock and set the boat up and grabbed a quick bite to eat at a local waterfront restaurant.  We munched on seared ahi tuna, fried green tomatoes, a crab cake sandwich, and grilled mahi mahi for the kiddos.  Oh and can't forget, the creme brulee!

After dinner, we dropped the boat into the water and motored out to where we would anchor for the night.  The sunset was beautiful and the stars at night twinkled brightly.  The milky way was faintly visible up above.  We also saw some kind of fish or squid light up and dart around in the water.  A couple rounds of Uno were played and the movie, Peter Pan, ended the night for us...sort of.  Not much sleep actually occurred, let's just say we were a tad uncomfortable.

Woke up just after sunrise and got the boat set up for the morning sail.  There was not much wind (2.5 to 3 knots) so our sail was slow and short-lived but we enjoyed the sunshine and scenic views.  We were back in the car by lunchtime and headed back home with some exhausted babies.  Hope this is the first of many days and nights at sea.
